First Call For Help

First Call for Help is a program of Piedmont United Way serving Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, Orange, and Rappahannock Counties in Virginia. It provides a Information and Referral (I&R) service that connects people in need of services or information with providers.

Connecting People

In every community there is a need for a source of information where the public can learn about not only emergency services, but regular services not mentioned in the phone directory. For example, where does an elderly person call for transportation to get to medical services if they no longer drive? Does a battered woman know that SAFE (Services to Abused Families) exists or for that matter how to contact SAFE? For literacy services, childcare, legal advice, where does a person in need call for information to connect them with the needed service?

We provide you with up-to-date information about health and human services in our area and refer you to the best place to get the help you need. All calls are handled with care and courtesy and are kept in confidence.

First Call for Help maintains an extensive database that includes local organizations, programs and services in the five-county area that help people with all kinds of health and human service needs. We also maintain a "Quick Guide to Services" for each of the five counties in our service area. Click on the link below for a copy of the quick guide for each county:
